instrument(o):05 (amuleto sonoro), 2023. Coral skeleton (Porites asteroides, Acropora cervicornis), wood. 11” x 7.5” X 7.5”
Interactive sound instrument/amulet, where the public is invited to create sounds through friction or percussion movements with two different pieces of dead coral. The work is a tribute and a reflection on the qualities and possibilities of the sounds of nature and ancestral native instruments. The work is part of a series of instruments that explore sound as matter, expanding beyond the form and rhythmic intention of the traditional musical instrument.
